Viking named Apps Has Been Removed by Google from Play Store!

 

Are you using Viking named Applications on your smartphone? Here is a news for you. All the applications of Play Store, which have names similar as Viking have been removed by Google. According to security researchers, these are malicious apps and hackers are using these type of applications to steal user’s information by doing remote attacks. Hackers are using infected devices to create botnets and harmful malwares. The Viking application is an app which can track your device usage. For e.g. Data usage, free texts, Free calling minutes etc.

 

Why these applications are malicious?

The Viking Applications and its related applications are executing hard coded scripts remotely in the devices. Hackers are using these infected devices to create botnets and malwares. After developing these botnets and malwares, hackers use them for Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS), Fake Advertising, Phishing, Pop-up scams, Ransomware attacks and many more attacks. To protect the users from these harmful attacks, Google listed all these applications and then removed all of it from play store. Names of some applications are Memory Booster, Simple 2048, Viking Jump named game and Wifi Plus etc. These application had been used by a number of users. The applications which has been deleted by Google, were installed on approximately 5, 00,000 Android devices.

 

How hackers are misusing Infected Devices?

Hackers are controlling infected devices through Command and Control (C&C) servers. Hackers are executing malicious scripts in the program files of infected devices. They are also developing botnets and new malwares by writing malicious codes in the program files of these applications. Hackers are stealing information of devices by executing scripts remotely in the devices and after that they are preparing that devices for performing new attacks which are suitable for their configuration. Hackers could hijack these Android devices for false advertising of Applications and many other products. Hackers and Scammers could also target users to steal their financial information.

Google have deleted these applications from play store after getting a number of negative reviews from its users. According to users of Viking Apps, they were getting Pop-Ups of Premium Application offers. When they were clicking on it, link was redirecting them on other third party websites. Many hackers are selling users personal information on ‘Dark Web’. It is very clear that this information has been stolen by them through these malicious applications.
