“Avast” Released a Free Decryption Tool for “FindZip Mac OS Ransomware” Victims

The security researchers at ESET detected a “FindZip macOS” named ransomware last month. It was tracked by the security experts as “OSX/Filecoder.E”. It was a specially designed ransomware to target Mac OS users only. This ransomware was written by its authors in “SWIFT” language and cyber crooks were spreading this ransomware through Torrent websites. The hackers were manipulating Mac users to download this malware by representing it as a “Patcher”. A number of Mac users had submitted reports about this ransomware. A decryption tool for this “FindZip macOS” ransomware has been released by security firm “Avast” for free.

This FindZip macOS ransomware was born, when Apple released a security update for its XProtect signatures.  Everyone love free stuff and hackers are very well introduced with this fact. The authors of this ransomware were making it available on torrent websites as cracked version of Adobe Premier Pro and Microsoft Office. There is hardly available ransomware, which is specially coded by hackers to target Mac users only. FindZip was a new strain of this type of ransomware. The first release of this ransomware was incomplete. The victims were not getting their files back even after paying the ransom. There was a problem in the code of this ransomware and it was not sending all the encrypted keys to the command and control server.

To get rid of this ransomware, security firm Avast has released a free decryption tool for the victims. Well, it is a great news for all those victims who has lost their files due to this FindZip macOS ransomware. Before Avast, the security firm Malwarebytes also published the instructions to restore the data encrypted by this ransomware. The process of Malwarebytes was a little bit difficult for non-technical persons, so the Avast has released this tool.

The tool is available on the official website of Avast and you can download it from here: security experts of Avast had successfully tested this tool on macOS version 10.10 (Yosemite) and macOS version 10.12 (Sierra). The victims could recover their files on a mac or windows based computer by using this tool.
